    Who We Are

We are yoga enthusiasts who want to show others what is possible mentally and physically through the practice of yoga.

“Teach yoga to anyone. Teach yoga to everyone.”

    - Michael Gannon

    Our Mission

Life can be complicated – Yoga is simple.  The energy generated from the basic element O2, or Oxygen, is an essential component of life. The nexus of Y2 Yoga is simple – like Oxygen, we believe yoga is just as essential for a healthy body and mind.

Our mission is to offer people at every skill level, opportunities to improve their wellness through the practice of yoga.

“As human beings, our job in life is to help people realize how rare and valuable each one of us really is, that each of us has something that no one else has—or ever will have—something inside that is unique to all time. It’s our job to encourage each other to discover that uniqueness and to provide ways of developing its expression.”

    - Mr. Rogers

  • Class Descriptions

We provide a wide variety of classes and hope that our students can find one that suits them perfectly.

    y2_img_girl

    Vinyasa Basics

While this class emphasises the fundamentals of an asana practice, it is designed to fill the needs of even a seasoned yogi. Correct alignment of the postures combined with correct breathing techniques is emphasized by the instructor. This is a great class for new comers, as well as those looking to strengthen the foundation of their practice.

    Power 1

An introductory level class for Power Yoga that is ideal for beginners who want to try a more challenging practice. This class is the first step once you have become familiar with the basics. More time is spent moving with your breath, strengthening your cardiovascular system and endurance.

    Power Mixed

A  mixed level sequence of power yoga postures. This class is perfect for the beginner and intermediate practitioner!

    Power 2

The most advanced Power Yoga class of the week. This class is designed to challenge even the most advanced practitioners of yoga, while also showing intermediate yogis where they can take their practice. This class explores more advanced poses, inversions, and transitions. Get ready to PLAY!

    Super Flow

This intermediate level class honors all those yogis who have a passion for flowing. This class is designed to challenge your endurance and cardiovascular system through long sequences of flow repeated several times. Instruction is minimal, so a good understanding of asana is encouraged. Get ready to kick some asana with a playlist of uplifting beats. Come with an open mind and a happy heart.

    Hot

A standard, all levels hot class conditioning the body and mind. The heat allows the body to go into postures and positions more freely. Postures are often held longer in order for the heat to penetrate deep into the body.

    Hot Vinyasa

If you like to flow and you like hot classes then you will love Hot Vinyasa. This is a power yoga (vinyasa) class taught in a heated room. The heat will provide for a detoxifying sweat while you vinyasa through a variety of postures following your breath.

    Ashtanga for Beginners/ Mysore

Ashtanga means “8-limbs” and is described in the Yoga Sutras as the 8 step path to true yoga (union of mind, body, and spirit). Many forms of yoga were adapted from this traditional sequence. Ashtanga for Beginners/Mysore is a class that teaches students how to commit the Primary series to memory, however as is the tradition of Mysore style Ashtanga, students who have committed the practice to memory already will be encouraged to proceed at their own pace. This benefits all of the students from beginners to advanced practitioners, because the teacher will be able to provide more individual assistance to students in the postures that they need them the most in.

    Ashtanga (Led)

Ashtanga means “8-limbs” and is described in the Yoga Sutras as the 8 step path to true yoga (union of mind, body, and spirit). Many forms of yoga were adapted from this traditional sequence. Ashtanga (led) takes you through the Primary Series and Finishing sequence. The teacher will lead all of the students through this practice together.

Long, Slow, Deep, or LSD (Hot)

This class warms up the body with some vinyasa flow but quickly brings students to the floor where they can explore the depths of their flexibility with long holds. This approach gets deep into the muscular fibers of the body and is very restorative and relaxing.

    Kids Yoga

This class is a time to align the young and creative minds of our kids with some fun and powerful yogic techniques to focus their mind and build co-ordination. Basic poses are learned in a very playful environment so kids enjoy the process of learning yoga!

    Good Karma

Our Good Karma class is our way of giving back to our community of students. This power yoga class is just $5, so no classes are removed from your pass when you check in, rather they are paid for separately. The general way to describe Karma is with the saying “what goes around, comes around”. Our intention is to offer this class at a discount to those who might need it. Namaste.

    Dharma Initiative

This power yoga class is our donation based class and all proceeds are offered to a weekly charity. Dharma is a spiritual term that means one’s righteous duty and literally translates as that which upholds or supports. With this class we choose to support our community and the charities that mean the most to you. Namaste.

    Prenatal

Prenatal yoga is an excellent way to strengthen the body and prepare the mind for the child birthing experience.  No previous experience with yoga is required!  Classes are specifically designed to help prevent many common discomforts of pregnancy and prepare the body for childbirth.  Postures will target stretching and strengthening the legs, lower back, belly, and pelvic floor muscles as well as creating space in the hips and sacrum.  We will
also explore the breath to create release, relaxation, and focus.

  • Yoga Newbies

We encourage you to come and experience yoga as it was meant to be experienced. Here are some points that will help your first class be a success.

    y2_img_girl

    Our Ten Yoga Commandments

    • 1. Breathe.
    • 2. Bring water, A LOT of water!
    • 3. Enter quietly and if you need to leave early, then do so in quietly. This is out of respect for the other students.
    • 4. NO CELL PHONES! Don’t be that guy or girl.
    • 5. TAKE BREAKS when your body tells you to.
    • 6. If it hurts, then DON’T do it! Everybody has a different body. Pain is a signal that something is wrong. LISTEN!
    • 7. Be playful and don’t take things so seriously. You don’t know your limitations until you try and they change daily. Have fun with it.
    • 8. No one begins the practice of yoga able to do all of the poses perfectly and that shouldn’t be the goal.
    • 9. Leave your ego at the door. Yoga is not a competition, it is a practice.
    • 10. Relax, it’s just yoga!

    More Yoga Tips

    Yoga 101

The word yoga has several meanings, but in general it means to unite, or join. What it is referring to is the mind and body. In yoga you move and you breathe, and slowly over time you begin to get to know yourself more deeply: physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. It is like life in a sense. You practice, but their is no winning in yoga, just like there is no winning in life. You move through your practice like you move through your life, enjoying your successes, not giving up when you fall down, and looking forward to all of the splendors the future holds. See more on our page “What is Yoga?”.

    Who can practice Yoga?

Yoga guru, Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois, so eloquently says, “If you can move and you can breathe, then you can practice yoga. There is only one man that cannot practice yoga, and that is ‘lazy man’.” We can’t emphasize that enough.

    What to expect?

Everyone in the class is on their mat and this is their personal space for the duration of class. A typical class starts off by chanting “Om”. Newbies often sit quietly during this time and wonder what is going on, or what have they gotten themselves into. Om means peace, and is often chanted as a way of clearing ones mind in preparation for class or as a way to end class. A warm up usually follows, then a flowing sequence, and the a floor sequence. All classes end in Savasana, which literally means Corpse Pose. Students are encouraged to stay through the duration of this time and allow the postures and their practice to settle into the body.

    Where to begin?

If you are new to yoga, then you may want to begin by taking at least one Yoga Basics or Power 1 class, and then deciding on your progression from their. Please see the Class Descriptions page for more help on this topic.

    How to attend?

Just show up! We rent yoga mats and towels, and we sell bottled water, as well, so even if you are just starting out we can provide you with everything you need to have an enjoyable experience.

    What to bring?

We encourage you to bring water with you to keep yourself hydrated, a towel to keep dry from sweat and prevent slipping, and a yoga mat if you have one of your own. We can provide all of these things if you do not have them or forgot them. We also have very nice accommodations, including showers, and cubbies for personal belongings, so that you may change into something more comfortable after class. We also recommend you bring an open heart and open mind!

The Girls on the Run Program

    Mission

To educate and prepare girls for a life time of self-respect and healthy living.

    About

Girls on the Run® is a life-changing, experiential learning programs for girls age eight to thirteen years old. The programs combine training for a 3.1 mile running event with self-esteem enhancing, uplifting workouts. The goals of the programs are to encourage positive emotional, social, mental, spiritual and physical development.

    Objectives

The objective of Girls on the Run is to educate and empower girls at an early age in order to prevent the display of at-risk activities in the future. At risk activities include substance/alcohol use, eating disorders, early onset of sexual activity, sedentary lifestyle, depression, suicide attempts and confrontations with the juvenile justice system.

    The Program

Girls on the Run® is a 501(c)3 positive youth development program which combines an interactive curriculum and running to inspire self-respect and healthy lifestyles in pre-teen girls. Our core curriculum addresses many aspects of girls’ development – their physical, emotional, mental and social well-being. Lessons provide girls with the tools to make positive decisions and to avoid risky adolescent behaviors

    Vision

    • To provide life-changing, high quality programs for girls
    • To provide life-changing and high quality experiences to the women developing and delivering the programs

    Girls On Track

Girls on the Run is the name of our organization, but we have two programs:

    • Girls on Track — for 6th-8th graders

The psychological research and principal philosophy behind both programs is the same, yet the depth of processing varies in order to be age appropriate. The Girls on Track middle school curriculum allows for more mature processing around certain topics including eating disorders, internet safety, cyber bullying and tobacco and alcohol use.

The program is fee-based, however financial assistance is available to ensure the program is accessible to all who are interested.

Girls on the Run® councils collaborate with a variety of non-profit organizations, including community hospitals, recreation centers, public and private schools, YWCA’s, YMCA’s, Boys & Girls Clubs, health departments, law enforcement organizations, running & fitness clubs and universities.

    Curricula Organization

The curriculum is divided into three parts:

    • The first eight lessons are centered on the girls getting to know themselves. Examining their values, their likes and dislikes, and who they envision themselves to be. As the girls get to know themselves, they are also sharing with each other. Lesson topics and learning goals include “fueling our healthy pace”, “centering: the importance of slowing down” and “celebrating gratitude.”
    • The next eight lessons concentrate on team building, being supportive, learning to listen and cooperate, etc. Lesson topics and learning goals include “standing up to peer pressure”, “gossiping hurts everyone” and “it’s okay to choose my friends.”
    • The last eight lessons relate to the world at large. This includes making a contribution to your community and learning to recognize and deal with the negative messages we often receive from the world (media awareness, negative peer pressure, etc.) Lesson topics and learning goals include: “learning about community”, “tuning into a new message (media literacy)” and the development and implementation of a group community project.

The 24 lessons conclude with the opportunity to participate in a 5k event.

    Seasonal Programming

Girls on the Run sessions are offered in the fall or in the spring.

    • Fall Session: Ten or Twelve-week program meeting twice a week from August to December
    • Spring Session: Ten or Twelve-week program meeting twice a week from January to May
